As part of the Cycling City project we are proposing to build two improved pedestrian and cycle links to the Bristol Bath Railway Path. One to St. George’s Park and one to Bristol Brunel Academy, Speedwell. This will help more local people and commuters get on and off the Railway Path and thereby help people to travel more easily by foot or by bicycle. The Bristol Bath Railway Path is a unique facility as it provides a direct and uninterrupted journey for walkers and cyclists between the city centre and North East Bristol.
We are organising two drop in sessions: the first will take place on Monday 13th July 2009 at Whitehall Rugby Club, Foundry Lane between 4pm and 7.30pm, the second will take place on Wednesday 15th July 2009 at St Ambrose Church, Stretford Road between 4pm and 7.30pm.We would welcome your views and comments, which will help inform the design of the scheme to be taken forward. Following the outcome of the consultation we will submit a planning application.
Speedwell Link
Responses on the evening of the consultation event surrounded the current misuse of Ridgeway Playing Fields by motorcycles. Issues over land ownership were also raised.
As a result, access controls have been included on the planning application (09/03248/FB 09/03070/F) to prevent unauthorised access. We are currently investigating the land ownership implications along Holly Lodge Road.
St. George's Park Link
Responses on the evening surrounded the possible loss of parking on Stretford Road, although residents' fears were allayed when explained the scheme would have minimal impact (maximum 2 spaces to be removed). Also we are investigating the possibility of re-examining the out-dated waiting restrictions on Whitehall Road, which currently has a knock on effect on Stretford Road.
Residents were generally in favour of the crossing proposal. The planning application no. for this scheme for formal response is: 09/03046/FB
