Community Asset Transfer (CAT) policy consultation

Consultation Overview

Community Asset Transfer (CAT) is an important means of empowering local communities by transferring the management and/or ownership of council assets to local organisations. For this to be done in a consistent and transparent way, the council is undertaking a 12-week consultation of its draft CAT policy.

Why We Are Consulting

The council is considering how it can further support third sector organisations in Bristol by making more of its assets available through Community Asset Transfer (CAT). To do this in a fair and transparent way, we will adopt a clear policy, with an easy to understand process and criteria. This new policy is now being developed and we are seeking the views and input of the wider community to help improve our draft policy.

What Happens Next

We will publish the consultation results on the website at www.bristol.gov.uk/assettransfer towards the end of July 2010.Once the policy has been approved by Cabinet, we plan to hold a public information event to launch the policy and provide more information about how CAT can be used to empower and support local communities in Bristol.
