As the first step in implementing the council’s Parks and Green Space Strategy we are seeking your views on a series of Area Green Space Plan ideas and options papers which set out how all of Bristol’s communities can have better access to a range of quality parks, green spaces and facilities.The ideas and options presented will help implement the aims of the strategy and make improvements that concern local residents most, such as:
*providing new and improved children's play areas
*improving accessibility,
*and making spaces safer

                    [Closing 25 February 2011]

As we enter a phase of great challenge for the country and the council of public expenditure cuts, Bristol City Council is reflecting the coalition government's attempts to involve people in the debate by asking the city's citizens and stakeholders for their Bristol-based ideas on:

how the public sector can achieve better value for money through efficiencies or more joint working;

areas of work that whilst important, could better (and more efficiently) be delivered by people other than the existing public sector agencies;

on any public services that in these tough financial times could usefully be cut back or stopped altogether

As part of our commitment to listening to the views of our customers, Bristol City council is carrying out a survey to find out how satisfied customers are with our car parks and the services they receive from the Council. The information provided will be used to review the current state and use of our car parks as well as help improve/inform our services in the future. This is the first time we have asked people for their views on our parking facilities, and will provide the basis for an annual customer review.

The council needs to save over £50 million over the next three years as the country enters period of public expenditure cuts following the banking crisis and the recession. This means we have to think about what services we provide, how we go about providing them (and how much this costs) and be creative in thinking about doing more for less and doing things more efficiently. We now give detailed information about our spend on major spend and service areas and pose some questions about this.

The draft City Wide Community Cohesion Strategy – Building Bristol Together has been developed over the last five months in discussion and consultation with residents, community groups and the public sector. It will provide a blue print for delivering a community cohesion approach within the day-to-day service provision of Bristol City Council and its partners. Discussion and consultation are an essential part of this process and will help to build a meaningful strategy that can make a real difference.

Assessment of the character and boundaries of the City Docks Conservation Area is overdue. The last review was conducted in 1993. In 2006, English Heritage published Guidance on Conservation Area Appraisals detailing best practice on conducting specific assessment of an area’s significance. Producing a Character Appraisal is an opportunity to evaluate and record the special interest of the City Docks, and how that significance is vulnerable. It is also an opportunity to check the current boundaries are correct. The character appraisal will also identify ‘negative features’; the management proposals outline aspirations to improve these through positive change.
