The Borough's Favourite Shopfront Competition

Overview

Barrow Borough Council has launched a competition to find the Borough’s favourite shopfront.
You can vote for your favourite shopfront by telling the Council in no more than 50 words which shopfront is your favourite, and what you think makes it special.
The shopfront could be old or new; in need of some TLC or in a good condition. It may be your local corner shop or it could be a larger store within a town centre. You may like it because of an unusual feature, a quirky sign or something else which sets it apart from the rest. What we'd like to know is what you think is attractive or special about it.
You can vote for any shopfront in the Borough, whether the shop is in use or is currently empty. Remember though that it is the external appearance of the shopfront which is important, rather than the products on display or the services on offer.Tell us what you like about shopfronts in the Borough and which is your personal favourite.
The person who gives the best reasons for their vote will win £50, and the shopfront with the most votes will be named as ‘the Borough’s Favourite Shopfront 2010.

Why We Are Consulting

The design and appearance of shopfronts plays a big part in establishing the character of an area. Whether it’s a large store on a busy high street or a small village shop, the shopfront is an important part of making an area attractive for shoppers and traders alike.
Barrow Borough Council works hard to help improve shopping areas, both within our town centres and beyond, and is now producing some guidance to help improve the design of new shopfronts and protect unique and historic ones.
To help produce this guidance, the Council wants to find out which shopfronts people like the most, and why.

What Happens Next

The shopfront that receives the most votes will be crowned as the Borough's Favourite Shopfront, and the person who gives the best reasons for their choice will win a £50 cash prize.
