Day Services Consultation
Overview
Cumbria County Council has looked at key statistics on changes in the population, including the rising number of older people, the rising expectations of service users in the future, government priorities and current gaps in services. In addition, in recent years, demand for traditional day service provision for older adults has been falling, commonly to between 60% - 70% of the capacity of each service. The Council has been thinking about changing day services, to ensure a modern menu of services would be available for people now and to the needs of the growing numbers of older people in future.
Why we are consulting
The Council would like to channel investment into more flexible and appealing alternatives which would also use resources with greater efficiency. One way has been to look seriously at our traditional day services. What is being proposed should enable the Council to continue to provide a specialist high dependency building based day service in each local council District. This would allow a sizeable re-investment to take place with other providers via service users utilising Personal Budgets to make wider choices
