Proposed Changes to Empty Property Strategy
Overview
Eden District Council is reviewing its approach to tackling empty properties. Whilst being mindful that it can enforce legislation to tackle empty properties, the Council would like to broaden the range of assistance it offers to property owners. As such, a number of new measures are proposed.
Why we are consulting
Views are sought on the following proposed measures:
- Short term loans to property owners.
- Conversion of commercial premises into houses and also into mutliple occupation (e.g. bedsits sharing kitchens and bathrooms).
- Conversion of large empty properties into multiple self contained units.
- Creation of additional self contained units within existing occupied properties.
